Big Daddy Wilson (voc, dr) presented old and new songs in the intimate atmospere of the KITO, Bremen-Vegesack DE on 2017-12-14. He was accompanied by the superbes Cesare Nolli (g, voc) and Paolo Legramandi (b, voc).
His great latest CD “Neckbone Stew” was published in January 2017 on Ruf Records. Big Daddy Wilson is very much in the style of Keb’ Mo’ and Eric Bibb (who guests on this record along with his sometime Swedish lead guitarist Staffan Astner ) – soulful, gospel-based acoustic blues music. Although Big Daddy hails from North Carolina he’s been based in Germany since leaving the U.S. Army and marrying his German wife Helga. Also like Bibb, Big Daddy has a wonderful dark honey voice and he has written most of the songs here himself – except for a nice version of Tracy Chapman’s “Gimme One Reason” where he shares the vocals with guest Ruthie Foster – and again like Bibb his songs relate to modern life but with a nod to the blues tradition.
